Steal Taylor Schilling’s amazing Golden Globes hair, by Leonor Greyl

Steal Taylor Schilling’s amazing Golden Globes hair, by Leonor Greyl

Earlier, while I was tweeting about the red carpet, I reflected that I wasn’t a fan of this year’s sleek/wet hair trend. It looked like unwashed hair to me. What I love on red carpets is glamour – volume, curls, a lot of height. Celebrity hair stylist Ryan Trygstad created the gorgeous look for Orange Is the New Black‘s Taylor Schilling for the 2014 Golden Globes using Leonor Greyl products, and it was exactly what I was talking about. “We wanted to go with a look that was a bit 80s, late 70s.  Hair that was bigger on the bottom, but nothing too stylized.  Taylor is wearing this gorgeous emerald silk dress with gold heels and reminds me of Sharon Stone in Scarface, it has that sexy 70s vibe,” says Trygstad. “I began by...

Get Zooey Deschanel’s glamorous Golden Globes hair!

Get Zooey Deschanel’s glamorous Golden Globes hair!

If you were following on Twitter tonight, you know that a bunch of us were totally obsessed with Zooey Deschanel’s hair on the Golden Globes red carpet. Zooey is nominated tonight, and is wearing a sexy Old Hollywood style chignon created by hair stylist, Shelley Brien for Pantene. According to Shelley, “Everything starts with a good blow dry.” AIN’T THAT THE TRUTH. Shelley began by drying hair with a large round brush using Pantene’s Heat Protection Spray. When Zooey’s hair was fully dry, she set it with a large barrel curling iron to create voluminous waves. Keep the curl by applying a lighter version hairspray, like Pantene Volume Touchable Hairspray, so it brushes out nicely, but maintains the wave. To create the updo,...

This hairstyle is worth half a billion dollars

…and if I won the super lottery, I’d be all about it. Meet Graff Diamonds’ Hair & Jewel, which recreates the 1970 hair creation by Laurence Graff, which at the time featured $1 million worth of Graff diamonds. (Also, above my Amex limit…but we’ll go there later.) The 2013 Hair & Jewel showcases 22 extremely rare jewels valued a total of $500 million dollars. Can you even?! If I was a princess… Check out all the  jewels used in the 2013 Hair &...

Steal Julie Bowen’s Emmy Awards Chignon!

Steal Julie Bowen’s Emmy Awards Chignon!

Julie Bowen of Modern Family looks amazing tonight in a simple, low chignon with texture and draped bangs created by  hair stylist Jill Crosby. “Julie’s dress took center stage so the hair and make-up needed to make room to do that. The hair was slightly sculpted with a rough, natural texture. This is a fun, easy look that anyone can do!” Steal the look: Jill began with damp hair and used prep spray for texture. She sectioned the hair with her fingers and dried using the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Dryer with the concentrator nozzle for directional drying. Jill used her fingers, lifting and stretching the hair as she dried to keep the texture. Jill rough dried the back to keep the volume and texture. Jill then used the T3 SinglePass Straightening...

Steal the Hair: Rose Byrne at the Emmy Awards!

Steal the Hair: Rose Byrne at the Emmy Awards!

If you are watching the Emmy Awards right now, you might be as beside yourself over Rose Byrne’s hair as I am! One of my favorite people in the universe, John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh, said he was inspired by an image of Bianca Jagger from the late 70’s/early 80’s, and gave Rose Byrne a modern and polished version of the wild waves. Love it!!  Here’s the steps he took to create her sleek look, using products from John Frieda Hair Care.  Step 1 – Prep Josh started by applying Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Original Formula ($9.99 at drugstores) to Rose’s wet hair. “Rose’s recent transformation from brunette to blonde was a drastic change for the hair, which can often cause more frizz and overall unruliness, so...

Steal the look: Naya Rivera’s VMA Hair

Steal the look: Naya Rivera’s VMA Hair

Greeting from Cancun! (Or, to be more exact, the airport terminal in Cancun, where I expect to be for the next three hours.) I was at a dinner last night and didn’t get to see much of the VMAs beyond the highlights — but just had to take a moment to the fabulousness that is Naya Rivera, who rocked a look that was sultry, sweet, and very sexy. “Her dress was an inspiration for her Super Sexy 70’s vibe. With peek-a-boo cutouts & cool gold inserts, we collaborated to go for a modern day Cher look,” says celebrity stylist Clyde Haywood, who went for a look that is long and sleek with a center part, with lots of texture. (i.e. the opposite of my look post a weekend in Mexico, but never mind that.) Here’s Clyde’s advice for stealing...

Party hair done right

Party hair done right

Greetings! I am back from Montreal (and it only took me 26 hours to get here!) — I can’t wait to share THAT story with all of you, but for now — something more timely. (And, well, valuable to your actual lives…) With July 4th a few days away, there’s a lot of parties going on this week. If you are headed to a party, check out this post I did today for my new blog on Life and Beauty Weekly — today’s topic is Party Hair Done Right! Even better, they are all EASY styles, no fuss, no pain. (If only I could give you similar gym tips.) Also new today in the hair realm is my article this week for Latest-Hairstyles.com, on how to pull off Emma Stone’s super fabulous low bun and side-swept fringe. Yes, I’m still in hair...

Tomorrow: Montreal Jazz Fest! (Help me choose my hair!)

Tomorrow: Montreal Jazz Fest! (Help me choose my hair!)

I’m so excited! Early tomorrow morning, I’m headed to Montreal for Montreal Jazz Fest! I’m sure there’ll be some SERIOUS poutine going on while I’m there, but right now I’m getting [serious] about how I shall wear my hair for the opening night festivities. After all, it’s ‘new hair’s’ first REAL outing, it matters! It’s almost like dressing a baby to come home from the hospital, right? Here’s some of the top contenders, please tell me your vote! (PS: All photos were taken by my new awesome friend, Yuksel Sahin at Sanat Hair Salon – who also did my hair extensions. I <3...

New hair!

New hair!

We all knew that hair extensions were going to be a gateway drug for me. Back in March, I got hair extensions for the first time — it was something I always knew I wanted, and as soon as I got them, I was hooked. However, the experience at that time was a little like a one night stand – you have a super-hot few hours, and then, you never hear from that person again. Not so great when previous to said hot few hours, you were promised guidance, maintenance, and more. (i.e. it was very Paradise by the Dashboard Light.) Thank God I’m in a network where I have a lot of wonderful talented friends to show me the way — and yesterday, after a three-month lifespan, we removed those other hair extensions — most of which already had broken bonds...

Test driving Julien Farel’s Zero Frizz Quickie

Test driving Julien Farel’s Zero Frizz Quickie

Earlier this week, the fabulous Julien Farel invited me to his Langham Place (Midtown East, NYC) location to try his new Zero Frizz Quickie treatment, an odorless and formaldehydefree treatment that features Hydrolyzed Keratin and Julien  Farel’s Zero Frizz Restore to eliminate frizz, tame unruly hair  and balance out the negative  effect of water and chemicals on the skin and hair. Oh, and it takes only 45 minutes, meaning I could squeeze it into my (rare, it’s true) lunch break one Tuesday afternoon. Do you remember the old-school Brazilian Keratin treatments of 5 years ago? They smelled like noxious fumes and you had to cover your eyes and nose for half the treatment? God knows what it was doing to us — and our stylists. Not only  is it a...
