The life (and mind) of a romance writer
Those who know me well know that my initial life goal was not the life I ended up living.
Blame it on being raised at the knee of General Hospital (happy 50th, by the way!) – but I was watching soaps before I learned to read.
Romance novels were the first books I read, and when I decided I wanted to be a writer when I “grew up,” there was nothing else I even considered writing. Obviously, I’d be writing romance novels. The trashier the better.
I don’t know why I haven’t yet…I want to say it’s because I’m busy (I am!) – but I think there’s a part of us that always is petrified of pursuing that which we want most. To give ourselves to something and then fail, it kills the dream. It seems almost easier to just keep putting the idea off, right?
And so I’ve veered semi off course – but I am a writer, and I still do write about love and sex — just in a different capacity than I expected! My post today for SheKnows was actually really fun because it merged the two sides of my reality – I was asked to step inside the brain of a romance writer, and use their advice and tips as a launching ground for our own dating lives.
Whether you are a fan of soaps or bodice-ripper novels, chances are you see smoldering hookups and wonder if you are doing something wrong. Maybe — or maybe you just need to learn from the experts!
