The Guide to Spa Vacationing In Los Cabos

The Guide to Spa Vacationing In Los Cabos

There’s so much more to visiting Los Cabos than fish tacos and margaritas. It’s a Baja paradise, with an amazing climate, beautiful waters and lots of luxury. Included in the luxury is some amazing spas, making it a potentially ideal spot if you are planning a spa-centric girlfriends getaway this summer. If you’ve decided spa-ing is in your cards, here’s a few can’t-miss spots to detox before you head back to the bar to retox! Pueblo Bonito: While visiting this property, I tried the Temazcal ceremony for first time. As someone who avoids sweating at all costs, I didn’t expect to enjoy it – I was so wrong. It’s a traditional shaman-lead ceremony, and within the several hours you may spend there, you’ll emerge...

Packing For Your Much-Needed Holiday Weekend Getaway

Packing For Your Much-Needed Holiday Weekend Getaway

Many of us are taking a much-needed break this weekend and enjoying some Independence Day weekend fun. Want to party heavy and pack light? Here’s some fool-proof tips for efficient packing. Get an overview. As so often in life, proper planning is essential and that also goes for packing a suitcase. First of all, gather together everything you want to pack. “This will give you an idea of what you actually need and what size case you should pick,” says Laundry Manager at Hotel de Rome, Ivica Tot-Genz. Put heavy things at the bottom. Logical really, isn’t it? A wrongly packed heavy item, such as a book, can ruin everything. Rolling is better than folding. Trousers, t-shirts, ties and so on do not crease as much if they are rolled. Use tissue...

Travel must-have: A mini steamer

Travel must-have: A mini steamer

One would think with the sheer magnitude of travel I enjoy (this month boasts 4 trips), I’d be a better packer. Truth is, I’m not bad at bringing the right things (normally — there was the trip to a food festival on the beach when I forgot my swim suit, coverup, and flip flips) – but I’m pretty terrible at packing correctly. As in, chances are better than even I’ll be throwing random things into a bag AS the car waits outside to take me to the airport. And upon reaching my travel destination, I’ll decide it’s more logical to live out of the suitcase than unpack. (Actually, this is related to my not-so-unrational fear about what may live in hotel bureaus and closets.) But there you have it. After shopping and packing...

In this week’s travel news: Please stop patting my pony

In this week’s travel news: Please stop patting my pony

It’a hard life. This weekend, I flew to Denver for the one evening — just to attend a men’s grooming fashion show. Of course, some of the men were old enough to have been mothered by myself. But whatever. They are hot and I’m ripe for a mid-life crisis. Fun times, though. I felt vaguely like a child predator — until I got to the airport this morning and was treated like a REAL predator. We’re all about vigilant airport security, especially after the horror show at LAX last week. But my hair has no negative feelings toward anything or anyone (other than rain, humidity, cheap hair tools), and doesn’t appreciate being treated as such. Today, post body scanner, a TSA agent decided she needed to PAT MY PONY. “I’m...

Yes, you can fall in love with a car (and still be girlie)

Yes, you can fall in love with a car (and still be girlie)

For some reason unbeknownst to me, this always felt somewhat antithetical. I’d go on press trips now and then that were vehicle-centric, and marvel at the demographics. Beauty may be an estrogen fest, but tech and cars? It’s all boys, all the time. That alone was reason to be into the pursuit of journalism. But as I (albeit very slowly, I confess) started to actually understand a bit of what I was learning, I realized there’s a whole lot out there for even the least auto-comprehending of ladies to appreciate about cars. And, yes, I’m toeing the line of a stereotype I shudder to adhere to, but sometimes issues like adorable colors and trunk space means a heck of a lot to me. Check out my new article for SheKnows — a guide to our...

Trying to rationalize the Cleobella Passport Holder (do I need another one?)

Trying to rationalize the Cleobella Passport Holder (do I need another one?)

I already have a pretty sexy leopard passport holder that I’ve only gotten to use a few times since I received it. Why, then, am I so sure I need a Cleobella Passport Holder ($70)? It’s super cute — that’s for sure — and it’s the perfect style for an upcoming major international trip I have brewing (more on that soon!) – but, seriously, I’m certain my important documents are just more secure in neon pink leather! Actually, I feel that way about most of my life. It’s...

Lancome Génifique Day: Feel Your Best and Make a Difference this October 19!

Lancome Génifique Day: Feel Your Best and Make a Difference this October 19!

We all know Lancôme. It’s the world’s largest luxury beauty brand and has been around forever. But there was some amazing things I didn’t know, and I learned more a few weeks ago when the brand invited me along with some of my beauty editor besties to join them in Memphis at  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to learn about Genifique Day. For those not familiar with the initiative, it’s pretty amazing: On October 19, 2012 (and at select Lancôme counters during the month of October)  Lancôme will donate $7 from the in-store or online sale of every bottle of select Génifique products to St. Jude. St. Jude – which I always knew existed, but I wasn’t sure as to the scope of what it does, is absolutely amazing...

Getting Me Through the Day: Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer

Getting Me Through the Day: Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer

Part of my (some may say over-excessive) travel is that I spend a lot of time in drying airplanes. I’ve been trying to conteract the damage – first, by drinking more water (and less coffee and alcohol) inflight, and second, by carrying my Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer. It’s full of minerals and botanicals that promise to keep even acne-prone skin hydrated and healthy – even interesting stuff like Iris Florentina which helps to repair aging skin, reduce appearance of wrinkles, and help to repair skin before it weakens.  It’s also non-comedogenic, so it won’t block pores – something else I’m a fan of. I never break out more than when I travel. I’ve been using it pretty regularly this past week and I’m already...
