Stress and our skin are pretty miserable bedfellows

Stress and our skin are pretty miserable bedfellows

Since I have been a kid, stress has always made weird things happen to my skin — I’d have flareups of fever blisters, my rosacea would worsen, I’d get random breakouts and irritations. I always thought it was just me. Some sort of nervous reaction, but I’m not alone. Stress wreaks havoc on all areas of our life, and our skin isn’t getting off any luckier than the rest of us. So with most of us under stress – the American Psychology Association (APA) recently conducting a study, ‘Stress in America’, which found that Americans are more stressed than ever with the biggest jump being in numbers of adults who feel ‘extreme stress’ rising from 18% to 24% since last year –how do we help prevent it...

Travel skin save: A USB Humidifier

Travel skin save: A USB Humidifier

So, you guys, my skin sort of hates me. It’s been pretty weird: It’s mid-November, I’ve only been to cold (or, lukewarm, at best) weather climates of late. And, right now, I have a peeling sunburn on my chest! So, maybe it’s not the skin that hates me, but the sun? That’s a reminder though we should be wearing SPF every day. Even, apparently, while Christmas shopping in late fall/early winter. As we get closer to winter, dry air appears to be EVERYWHERE. And even if you have a humidifier to help with your skin’s suffering at home, chances are you aren’t throwing it into your carryon when you travel. I just found this Satechi portable USB humidifer($30) and I’m rather intrigued by it. This you COULD fit in your bag...

Perfect timing to ask you to please join me and One2One Network on Wednesday, May 29 from 1 – 2pm (ET), when I”ll be tweeting from the Simple Skincare Twitter Party! The party will be joining the folks from Simple and the CVS Beauty Club, where everything from holistically nourishing your skin from...

My skin is aging faster than any of us expected

My skin is aging faster than any of us expected

Because I’m a total glutton for punishment, I love to put myself through the ringer on hot, humid days just to feel badly about myself. Case in point: Makeup-less, I just did a bit of a self-test with the new (free!) My Own app. Just in case you haven’t been to a derm lately (which you should def do — especially since it’s skin cancer awareness month), it lets you get an idea of where your facial skin damage is, ways to fight it, and just how you are doing on the aging scale. (Because that obviously will make your hot, humid Tuesday THAT much better.) It works via a facial-recognition technology, tracking 50 points on your face. You take a photo using the front-facing side of your iPhone (or iPod, or iPad or whatever), and  it provides a...

SPF 101: How are you protecting your skin?

In honor of TODAY, which will culminate with me on a Mexican beach, I figured I’d share one of my favorite recent StyleUnited.com articles, on how to protect your skin when…at the beach!
