Free Shipping Day: Shopping For People Who Actually Know What They are Doing

Free Shipping Day: Shopping For People Who Actually Know What They are Doing

I’m not a fan of Black Friday. In theory, it’s awesome — who doesn’t like a day of sales? But I loathe the symbolism behind it — following a day of being grateful for what you have by stampeding strangers to get a bunch of stuff you don’t actually need. I’m more into Cyber Monday, as a rule. But I believe that your best deals can be found by being vigilant. By calmly waiting — much like a police stake out — and making your capture at the right time. Sales come and go, and some happen when least expected. But many are happening right now. Free Shipping Day, which is tomorrow, is largely for the so-called procrastinators. But it’s also for those of us to like to shop a little along the way and pounce when...

In honor of today’s Cancun shopping foray: Flea market survival tips!

In honor of today’s Cancun shopping foray: Flea market survival tips!

Greetings from sunny Cancun! I’m not getting to spend nearly enough time online this week (I’d complain, but look where I AM spending my time…) – but I needed to share that this morning’s itinerary involves checking out the local flea markets! I recently wrote a StyleUnited article on the best ways to survive a trip to the flea market – absolutely check it out if you get a chance! Shopping in a resort area though is a bit different – especially in a place like Cancun. This is not going to be my first time at the flea markets of Cancun – a picture from my most recent visit, last summer, is at left. (Not that beautiful beach – that’s the view from my suite at Live Aqua Cancun!) Truth is, when one arrives in...

Do you impulse shop? You’re not alone!

Do you impulse shop? You’re not alone!

Sometimes I worry that I’m a bit of a hoarder – between product samples, shopping bags, and random possession build up, there’s times I can’t even walk a straight path in my own apartment. But that never stops me from impulse shopping. Through a lingerie sale in my face and I’m all over it – despite having close to a dozen bras I’ve yet to even wear. It feels so good to know I’m not alone in this world though: A new study from The Checkout, an ongoing shopper behavior study conducted by The Integer Group and M/A/R/C Research, has found that nine out of ten shoppers buy items that aren’t even on their shopping list. And of shoppers, 66% say the reason was a sale or promotion, 30% say they found a coupon, and...

What Has Been Your Biggest Online Shopping Mistake? Win a $250 in Merchandise and/or Gift Cards From American Express Membership Rewards

As you all know, online shopping is very much my *thing*, and being savvy is a big part of it — I see it as almost a type of Olympic sport! American Express contacted me about a fun savvy online shopping series that culminates in a reader giveaway, and I couldn’t resist — especially since the program is intended to educate online shoppers on how they can stay smart online. And, lets face it, in a lot of areas online, many of us are not very smart! I’ve made my share of mistakes: From ordering wrong sizes to overpaying to buying from sites where items never arrived, I’ve done it all. I’ve ordered K-cups on eBay that have arrived tasting oddly…stale. And clothing that didn’t fit that I realized too late was final...
