Matthew Williamson collabs with Benefit for awesome ’70s-inspired kit

Matthew Williamson collabs with Benefit for awesome ’70s-inspired kit

Matthew Williamson has partnered with Benefit cosmetics to launch a super fun makeup kit inspired by the 70s and Studio 54 available starting right now!  Called The Rich is Back, includes an eyeshadow palette, mascara, gimme fever cheek powder with brush and lip gloss. Find it here on Sephora.com for $34. Williamson chats about the kit in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, saying his philosophy on beauty for women is the same as his clothes. “It’s not about forcing a square peg in a round hole, it is about individuality, accentuating what feels right for you. Makeup is a tool to help women feel confident and positive and I don’t think there’s one right way. I don’t have one defined checklist because I don’t have...

Budget Beauty Boast: NYC New York Color Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer

Budget Beauty Boast: NYC New York Color Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer

Raise your hand if primer is one of those morning makeup routine steps you tend to skip. I’m sometimes guilty of this — but I can tell you when I look at photos of myself from some media event, I can tell you INSTANTLY if that was a day I had “skipped a step” or not — and you know why? It makes a difference between a smooth, flawless finish…and, well, not. Makeup primer is incredibly easy to use — there’s no “technique” to it, in the sense of if we had been chatting about eyelashes or liner, you just use it after moisturizer — and before foundation – to help create a smooth, surface. This surface is the base for foundation in the same way that if you were to use body tanner, you’d want to...

Road to Chile: Packing My Carry-On Bag

Road to Chile: Packing My Carry-On Bag

In a few hours, a car is coming to pick me up and I’m headed off to the airport  – after a 3-hour flight, I’ll have a layover in Miami, and then I’m headed on a red-eye flight to Chile! Epic day of travel, indeed. As I will be spending the next 16 hours or so en route to another continent, my always important carry-on bag is even more so. What if I meet my soul mate across a bag of peanuts at 3 am? I can’t let myself go just because I’m at 36,000 feet! I’m not planning on wearing much makeup – doing so can result in pre-dawn raccoon effect (if I’m lucky enough to fall asleep, that is) – but here is what I WILL be utilizing on the plane: Ms. & Mrs. Miniemergency Kit: Talk about all-inclusive: It has...

Great Love: Jillian Dempsey for AVON eye smokifier

Great Love: Jillian Dempsey for AVON eye smokifier

A few weeks ago, I got to interview Jillian Dempsey (you may know her as Dr. McDreamy’s other half) – and try out her new Professional Eye Smokifier for Avon. Let me tell you, this product is a seminar in smokey eyes in one swipe. It has a soft tip applicator that does double duty — both a high pigmented shadow and liner. It also builds color and blends, so it can quick and easy give you the smokey eye effect you want… and as much of it as you want. There are four super sexy shades to choose from: Bronze, Very Black, Blue Grey, and Khaki — all $8. I personally love the blue...

Learn to Shop Smarter: CVS ExtraCare Program

Learn to Shop Smarter: CVS ExtraCare Program

I’ve been doing a whole lot of travel lately, and some of it is to unexpected places. For instance, earlier this week I visited the CVS Headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island to learn more about the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare Rewards program and Beauty Club. These programs were created to reward loyal CVS customers with discounts: Every time ExtraCare members make a purchase, either online or in-store, they earn ExtraCare customer rewards, or Extra Bucks. In addition, members also receive special offers printed on their in store receipts throughout the year. Members can spend their Extra Bucks at any CVS/pharmacy location, or online. CVS’ rewards program, Extra Bucks, is pretty amazing. The program is instant savings, but every quarter customers...

Top 5 Things I learned at the International Beauty Show

5 – No need to wear a push-up or continue saving for surgery. Apparently, use bust-enhancing cream, and it’s as good as a boob job. I took a sample. I’m going to get back to you on that one. 4 – People are using minerals for all sorts of weird stuff these days. Have a really hot mineral eye shadow? Well, stick some clear polish in it, and use it as nail color. (But, I ask, how do you feel safe using it on your eyes after that?) 3 – The eyebrow king, Damon Roberts, has just released “Brow Gain” on the market. It stimulates hair follicles and creates fuller brows. This is the last thing I need. I’d be getting threading every two weeks. However, I’m tempted to try rubbing it on my scalp… 2 –...
