Just in time for fall, design your own Uggs!

Just in time for fall, design your own Uggs!

I’ve been telling my friends all week that I’m happier about the whole status of my life since boot season has started. We’ll ignore that tights let me compress a fair amount of excess flesh, but in general, tights/boots season just make me feel so much more attractive! (Related reading: Check out my new article for The Fashion Spot  -- How to Shop Boots for Wide Calves — and some of my favorite styles!) But as it continues to get chillier, I may not be AS into the weather patterns — I’ll still want my boots though. I think it’s pretty adorable (and holiday season timely!) that Ugg Australia now lets us customize our Ugg boots and flip flops.  Ugg by You, is available for the UGG Class Short sheepskin boot and the Fluff...

Rainy Day Silver Linings: Joule Evedon Wellies

Rainy Day Silver Linings: Joule Evedon Wellies

Does someone currently barely allowed to leave their home need ANOTHER new pair of wellies? Even when I’m at my personal best, I hate the rain — and therefore, find galoshes to have a certain degree of guilt by association. Generally, galoshes can’t help but be unattractive and rather utilitarian — but times are a-changing, and I’m beginning to find myself looking for EXCUSES to break out my wellies. (When I’m actually out like a human being, that is.) So, obviously, the cuteness blew my mind when I came across these Evedon Wellies ($109) — pretty in purple is sweet enough, but can we just take a moment to behold the BOW? Seriously, the only way they could be any cuter is if I could wear them while frolicking around on a...

Surviving the Wilderness in Cougar Women’s Portico Snow Boot

Surviving the Wilderness in Cougar Women’s Portico Snow Boot

Boots? Snow? Isn’t it a bit early for that? Yes, but I got a preview, and thank GOD I was prepared. (Actually, thank Cougar.) A few weeks ago, I was on a press trip in Maine (the home of the best crustaceans in the nation) and suddenly, I found myself thrust into winter weather. Good thing for me, I had packed a pair Portico snow boots Cougar had sent me to try out, and I wound up living in them all three days of the trip. There’s a lot I love about these boots — they are understated – they don’t scream I AM HERE SO YOU DON’T FALL TO YOUR DEATH IN THE SNOW, but that works on several levels – you can easily adapt them to non-snow weather, but also enjoy them in ugly cold weather. (Not that Maine was ugly, it was actually...

A Lustful Glance at Sam Edelman’s Pierce Over The Knee Boot

A Lustful Glance at Sam Edelman’s Pierce Over The Knee Boot

My coat fetish has segued into a boot one (honestly, I never *haven’t* had a boot fetish) and of late, I’ve been browsing the net under the guise of “research” in pursuit of sexy tall leather boots. I’m loving these – they let me channel my other obsession – fashion of 100 years ago.  Sam Edelman ‘Pierce Over The Knee Boots ($300). The side-button detail is totally something Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman would have worn, but if she’d done the over-the-knee thing, she’d have scandalized herself right out of respectable society (not that she’d care, since she has Sully waiting in her bed). Seriously, imagine them with a cute tweed mini jumper and opaque tights....

Boot Lust: Sebago Saranac Tall Lace

Boot Lust: Sebago Saranac Tall Lace

There’s something to appreciate about every season (or even the fact that where I live, we HAVE seasons) – and for me, the best part of the fall season is getting to wear fabulous boots. I’m loving the Sebago Saranac Tall Lace ($210) — they are so riding boot-like, but also would be ideal with tights and a cute tunic on a night out. I’m partial to the dark brown (pictured) but the black is hot too. They are waterproof (since it seems to randomly snow on Halloween these days) and have a full grain leather upper that is breathable enough to keep your feet warm and dry no matter what’s going on outside. Goal for this week: To find a coat that can do that job. These boots are awesome...

I Wish I Could Validate These Cobra Society Thigh Boots…

I Wish I Could Validate These Cobra Society Thigh Boots…

You guys, I don’t know what is wrong with me. I have no problem living in a 4th-floor-walkup 300-sq-foot apartment, accepting my vocation is creative but yet not big with the liquid-fundage – and yet, I see a great pair of boots that I can’t come close to affording, and I try to validate adding them to my fall wish list. Obviously, my fall wardrobe’s success is dependent on my ownership of thigh-high leather. But if it can be extra special and draw the center of attention in my direction (obviously my always-goal), why can’t I have these Hand-Woven Wool and Brushed-Leather Thigh Boots ($1,195) by Cobra Society? What I love about these, too, is that they do all the work for me – seriously, ANY complicated outfit would look...

Bodacious Bargain Alert: Qupid Knee High Boots

Bodacious Bargain Alert: Qupid Knee High Boots

My favorite brown suede boots may possibly still be sitting somewhere in Santiago, Chile. How does one do this, you may ask? How can a reasonably intelligent girl go on a summer sojourn to beautiful South America and return without her boots? Well, in my defense, it was a wine tour and I’m a dedicated journalist. Whatever my sick, sad rationalization, it is now fall, and I’m down a pair of boots – with no excess funds to replace them. And, so, I’ve been browsing for the answer -could it be the Qupid Knee High Boots ($43)? No, they aren’t exactly a sexy new pair of Frye’s – but those will come when people remember to pay me in an orderly fashion – however, they are so great a price that I can feel fully justified...
