DSW and Disney Launch The Glass Slipper Collection, Inspired by Cinderella!

Some day, my prince will come.

And when he does, I just may be wearing something from the Glass Slipper Collection!

DSW and Disney have partnered to launch a line of shoes inspired by Cinderella. The Glass Slipper Collection will arrive on DSW stores and dsw.com on October 1st in celebration of the release of Cinderella: Diamond Edition, which is available on Blu-ray for the first time at the stroke of midnight on Oct. 2.

Shoes in the limited-edition collection bear an embossed carriage logo and a signature blue jewel on the sole. Cute! The shoes range in price from $59.95 to $89.95.

Debbie Ferree, Vice Chairman, EVP of Merchandising for DSW, says, “The inspiration for the line came from the vision of Disney artist Mary Blair’s original art for the film. We took a close look at the film’s aesthetic details-the rich textures and fabric, the beautiful blue in Cinderella’s dress, even the French rococo-inspired scenery. Every whimsical touch featured in the footwear collection came right out of the film.”

Interestingly, I just read that Cinderella’s glass slipper was MAYBE originally said to be made out of fur. (At least in the French version.) The word could have been mistranslated in an early version (Phin, Seven Follies, p. 208).

But, just like how electricity was ACCIDENTALLY discovered, mistranslation (if this anecdote is true, please tell me if you know!) can be a wonderful thing! How much more poetic is a glass slipper than a fur one? How delicate and fragile? (Just like LOVE)? AND, also completely unique? (Also, like, love.)

And, yet, how dangerous. (You see where I’m going with this…)

Oh, so glad there’s a wedding in my family this winter. Maybe the bridesmaids (hint, hint) can score the strappy version in the back?

Wow! I had no idea that the glass slipper may be a mistranslation from “fur slipper”. I like glass a LOT better! The shoe collection is actually really pretty, too!
