Quantcast

Back in the world (via Haru’s new summer menu!)

One of the best “side effects” of my winter health drama is that it led to me reconnecting with some old, dear friends.

One of them, my good friend Shari, joined me last week to celebrate my re-entry into the world (I travel again! I subway again! I live again!) over dinner at one of our old-time fave spots, Haru.

Haru Sushi is one of NYC’s most popular sushi chains and they invited me to bring a friend and try out a sampling of their latest menu additions.  There’s tons of new delicious spring specialties, like Kazan Chicken: Sautéed chicken breast with jalapeño peppers, spicy massaman curry and brown rice, Lobster Tempura with spicy pomegranate wasabi sauce and a Strawberry Fin sushi roll, made of Crunchy spicy yellowtail, jalapeño peppers and mango topped with scallops, wasabi tobiko and fresh strawberries and Kiss of Fire, which layers super white tuna, salmon, jalapeño peppers and wasabi tobiko wrapped around crunchy spicy tuna and more jalapeños.  Beyond amazing. We were also excited to try their steamed spicy king crab dumplings and SYMPHONY – a layered tower of spicy tuna, salmon tartare, king crab, and caviar.

As Shari and I were long the queen of the awesome girl’s night out martinis, we were very much about trying their new cocktail menu – which while still includes my favorite standby (the lychee martini, duh!) – also let the soon-to-be-vacationing Shari enjoy the new Shiso Slim (lemon vodka, St. Germain, pink grapefruit and yuzu juices, muddled shiso leaf and a splash of soda) – it’s low cal, but doesn’t TASTE low-cal. (Obviously I tasted it. I had to help her access the situation after all, right? THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.)

Disclaimer: We visited Haru Sushi’s Gramercy Park location as their guests, and our drinks/dinner were comped. However, all opinions expressed are, as always, my own.

You’ll have to bring me along when I come to visit you!!!

  3. Sushi sounds like a great way to get back into the swing of it! I try my best to avoid going anywhere below midtown, but I’ll check them out when I find myself down that way!
