Giveaway: Win $100 Gift Card to One of Hundreds of Retailers from Swagbucks

Holiday shopping has begun, but the average consumer is set to lose hundreds, if not thousands of dollars this winter and they may not even know it. So how can consumers get the most out of shopping experience and actually grow their pocket book?

Swagbucks  is a site that lets us earn virtual currency and real life rewards for performing the everyday actions we already ake online.  Search the web on Swagbucks, play games, watch videos, fill out surveys, and “cha-ching,” users earn branded virtual currency — Swag Bucks — that translates into real-world rewards and prizes.

The Swagbucks, earned through every day web activity that you are doing ANYWAY reward members with currency called “swagbucks” (get it now?) redeemable for gift cards and products at hundreds of partner retailers including Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Macy’s, the Apple Store, Sears, Disney, K-Mart and more.

I’m all about saving money this (and every season) and there’s some quick tips you should always be keeping in mind.

Combine Everything - You can save a lot of money if you  combine all available discounts, rebates, promotions or coupons to maximize your spending power

What Happened Last Year? - Often times sale prices may be the same or only a few dollars lower than standard MSRP on products, even at top retailers. Check last year’s discounts, the prize of the item on eBay, Amazon or other sites and at several competing retailers to be sure you have the best deal

Beware of the Mark Up - Retailers secretly mark up prices on inventory every day up until the holidays begin, then slash prices the day after Christmas to liquidate inventory. Although it may be a buzz kill, celebrating gift exchange several days after Christmas can double or even triple the amount of goods you can purchase in stores or online for the same dollar amount

Consolidate - Try consolidating all your old gift cards, coupons, gift certificates or other credits through customer loyalty programs along with holiday discounts.

Giveaway: One reader will win a $100 gift card to ANY of Swagbucks’ partner retailers (there’s TONS to choose from), to enter, go to Swagbucks.com and register (it’s free!) using the unique registration code of ALYTUDE — this will give you 70 Swagbucks in addition to the 30 you normal get for registering — to everyone who enters, regardless of whether you are the lucky $100 gift card winner! Also, follow @Swagbucks and @AlyWalansky on Twitter and tell us your tricks to save money on your holiday shopping this year. Deadline to enter is December 10. Good luck!

I’m already a Swagbucks member, and have been following you and Swagbucks on Twitter for some time (mami2jcn is my Twitter id). I’ve been earning Swagbucks for Amazon credit that I use to buy Christmas gifts. I’ve also been comparing prices from all the retailers and snatching items off my gift list when I see the lowest price or when I can combine a sale item with a coupon.

Hi, Swagbucks is a great site and I have been using it for a while. However, I have yet to truly use their price comparison tools so I want to try this out asap. I follow you on twitter @blindblog thanks for the giveaway!

I always make my list up the day after last Christmas and I shop all year long – looking for deals and crossingout names on my list as I get thier gift. I also stay flexible in terms of gifts – if aunt bea wants lavender slippers and I find purple ones for half the cost…she’s getting purple.

My tricks to save money on holiday shopping is to search for the best price online, then go through a site for cashback, use my credit card that gives me cashback (but of course pay it off when the bill comes so no interest is incurred) and use free shipping online. Shopping all year long is best also to find the best prices all year long.

My tricks for saving money at the holidays include making lists of names of people I need to get gifts for early in the year together with thier likes, sizes, hobbies and then keeping an eye out all year for cheap gifts and making sure I cross them pff the list when I have thier gift. I also take advantage of rewards programs and (gulp – hard to admit) freecycle.

I make home made goodies for gifts as well.

I save money all the time by being setting a budget and sticking to it. If I have $10 for auntie em – well I have $10 and I look for BOGO offers, freebies, clearance sales When you don’t have a pile of money to spend you get a little more careful in term os thinking about what a person would really really like, want or need – which opens a lot of doors in terms of ideas for gifts.
