This Week in my ‘healthier me’ journey: Jillian Michaels’ BODYSHRED, Zumba Convention, and At-Home Workout Pack GIVEAWAY with Boomchickapop!

The last month, as I’ve finally been back on my feet (so to speak), I’ve been working really hard at living a healthier life — emotionally, of course, but also what I eat, and how I take care of my body. I went from never exercising at all to going to 3-4 fitness-related classes a week — and some have been pretty hard core! Last week, my bestie Kristin and I went to a pretty incredible class – Jillian Michaels herself taught the  sneak peek class to her new BODYSHRED, a new group fitness class she created for  Crunch Gym that will be launching this fall. The new workout, utilizes Jillian’s 3-2-1 approach, and it was intense. The sneak peek class was “only” about 30 minutes, which made my crazy brain think it would be a...

The mile high club (and mile high shoes) — and how they hold the meaning of life

The mile high club (and mile high shoes) — and how they hold the meaning of life

As you may have realized from the last few posts, I made it through last week’s surgery with flying colors, and am actually rapidly on the mend. But still, it’s been a really long ordeal – and I think in some ways, it was a blessing — helped me to to transform my state of consciousness, and in a way, taught me to be more alive. It is easy to get so caught up in our daily dramas that we become consumed by worry. The pressures of the every day are incredibly numbing to the pleasures of life — and I’ve often found myself forgetting how to experience the pleasure of BEING. Simply, uncomplicated, being. In the words of John Mayer, “Your Body is a Wonderland”. (But so is your universe, and your friends, and your shoe...

Does eating junk food lead to depression?

Does eating junk food lead to depression?

The last few months I’ve been forced to spend a lot more time at home, not moving around — and have been eating a lot more “cheat” foods. And I’ve been down — is it because I’ve been stuck at home, eating said foods? Or am I eating said foods, because I’m stuck at home, and feeling kind of down? According to a new study, eating some junk foods  may increase your risk for depression. The study discovered the trend that people who regularly eat baked goods — the commercial kind, not momma’s home-baked with love — and packaged, processed foods tend to suffer in greater numbers from depression. The study was conducted by following 9,000 people who were not depressed over a period of six years. At the...

Can wearing heels kill you?

Can wearing heels kill you?

….and I’m not talking about falling off them onto a train track either… There was an ABC News report by Nick Watts about a new Australian study that discovered women who wear high heels show major changes to muscles and ligaments over time. Well, duh, we know THAT. It gets better, though. The study, appeared in the Journal of Applied Physiology, also found that high heel wearers suffer major changes to the way they walk, even after the change into flat shoes. This means their calf muscles shorten and some researchers say the inflammation can lead to heart disease!!! Heart disease. WHICH CAN KILL YOU. All because you love your sexy stilettos. Dr. David Agus agreed with that assessment, saying that inflammation anywhere in the body is very bad and...

Sicko Shocker: Men Reuse Underwear on Vacation, Women Don’t

Sicko Shocker: Men Reuse Underwear on Vacation, Women Don’t

In case ANY of you reading this had any doubt that men were beasts, a new poll by a British travel agency reveals a shocking fact: men who go on vacation reuse their underwear. I know, it’s horrifying, but try to get to a grip and read on. Men said they would take a paltry three pairs of underwear for a seven day vacation. 12% of those claimed they would wash their underwear (oh, please, like I believe that), and 37% said they would wear swim trunks most of the time and wouldn’t need as much underwear. Women who were polled said that they would take ten pairs of underwear for a seven day trip. CNN’s T.J. Holmes exclaims, “That’s just nasty!” I agree. Anchor Reynolds Wolf says, “Men are Neanderthals.” Agreed...

Swimsuit Season Takes a Season of Planning

Ahem. I am happy to announce I have found the piece of beach wear I will be wearing all summer. By Le Doux www.ledouxswimwear.com, the Femme Fatale style has a spaghetti strap side-tie bottom and a triangle top embellished with a Swarovski crystal skull design. From the moment we were brought together, I knew we were born to be united. (Especially since it matches my new Charm & Luck flip flops.) However, it reminds me that wearing it means…wearing it. Along those lines, I should probably cease “wearing” my lychee martinis and cupcakes. With warmer weather around the corner, many people are looking for ways to get in shape for bathing suit season and we all want quick fixes to lose some bulk, whether it’s 5 or 15 pounds. We are...
