Retinol products and the danger of use when waxing
Earlier this week, I wrote an article for SheKnows discussing the danger of mixing retinol products with our favorite waxing treatments. At the time, I was in Tel Aviv — some may say, the South Beach of Israel, enjoying 90+ temps and anticipating seeing much of the same in my planned trip to Jamaica next week. Well, I’m no longer going to Jamaica — change of plans — and I ended up getting burned in Tel Aviv (in more ways than one) — but the realization while there (and perhaps the impetus behind the article) was that we had a lot of work to do to sun-bask among the young and half-naked. So, what do we do? We use retinol to reduce the signs of aging, and waxing so we don’t look like a hairy huntress while on the prowl. To choose...
Read MoreHelp in the fight against breast cancer: Walk The Walk’s MoonWalk New York City
Life is going way better for me than it was this time last year. Of course, last year, it was going pretty shitty, but it makes me feel guilty — like that now that I have the strength to, I should be using it for something more worthwhile than myself. I was pitched Walk The Walk’s iconic overnight power walk, The MoonWalk, which is making its way to New York City on July 20th at 10pm, and it sounded like just the ticket. Presented by Empire BlueCross BlueShield, the overnight walk through New York City will have an estimated 8,000 participants and will begin with a participant opening ceremony celebration at Randall’s Island. Walkers will then depart weaving through Manhattan past the city’s most iconic landmarks, lit up brightly at night. There...

I don’t go to a ton of events during Passover – it’s hard. Glutton that I am, put me in a room full of everyone else eating snacks and drinking drinks, and I sort of want to kill them all. But I can’t become a hermit in the name of food, either. That’d be, well, crazy — and I did find myself out and about a few times this week, most notably for the super fun Share, Love, Celebrate the Best of P&G event this past Wednesday. Terrence J was the host of the event — the “E News” co-anchor and actor was super charming as he shared some of his favorite products and revealed that P&G would be “sharing the love” with a celebratory brandSAVER® coupon booklet in local newspapers tomorrow (Easter...
Read MoreThe continued fitness manifesto (and knowing when you overdid it)
I want to tell you I had an over-ambitious day. But the truth is, even in saying that, I want to kick my own ass – because I have so many amazing friends that do triple what I do in a day, and still are as strong and radiant as always. I am going out of town in a few days, and so was trying to fit a whole lot of activity into one day – and in the course of the last 10 or so hours, I packed for my trip, did laundry, did pre-Passover shopping (when I come back from Austin, Passover is just a few days later), and capped it off with a 90-minute intermediate level Vinyasa Yoga class at my local gym. Am I qualified enough to call myself Intermediate? Probably not. Can I handle a 90-minute class? Well, I thought I could…I’ve done hour classes...

I feel like my relationship with fitness (and health, and dieting) is very up and down this past year — I do really well for a while, and I do really bad for a while. A lot has to do with related circumstances – I tend to not incorporate fitness or eating right into a travel intensive schedule, or when I feel a lack of support. Once upon a time, I was Princess Will Power, now, I’m easily succumbed when a friend encourages me to taste that dessert or eat that burger. It’s hard, it’s really hard, because even now, reading this — I see myself blaming everything and everyone but myself for a situation that is my own doing. But I’m also trying to keep things fun and different — and part of that is shaking up the gym...
Read MoreEver wonder about the slim-down secrets of the celebs?
Obviously, I did. And do. So much that I’ve been TIRELESSLY working all week on a piece for Celebuzz where we went to some of the top trainers in the biz — the very ones who work with the top stars – and learned how they make magic happen. (Actually…where does that tirelessly phrase come from? It’s not really accurate. Tiredly! Much of my work while not tiresome results in one being tired!) – this was a super-fun project though and I learned so much!) Can you imagine the stress of having to wear sheer, cutouts, slits and mermaid silhouettes — in front of all of America, and have them criticize you at the slightest jiggle? That’s why these trainers are in HOT regard. Some of the best tips (from the greatest out there!)...
Read MoreOpening my heart: The reason I decided to have a Valentine’s date with Yoga (and myself)
A few weeks ago, I joined Crunch Gym, and now receive their weekly emails about special gym events and promotions. Yesterday, in honor of Valentine’s Day, they had an “ex factor” boxing class for singles — you could put the picture of your ex (or your estranged not-yet-ex, whatever) on an Everlast bag and box your heart out. I considered it, but then I realized…doesn’t it perpetuate the exact emotions we’re trying so hard to avoid? Some of us celebrated love yesterday, others spent it curses ex(es), regardless — it’s a day full of feelings. I spent the morning of Valentines Day 2012 wallowing – still very sick following my first surgery, and feeling distinctly alone and abandoned. I spent...

Read MoreCooking with Gina Neely (and the George Foreman Grills Weight Loss Challenge!)
So, last week – on a different rainy day — I got to meet one of my Food Network favorites, Gina Neely — she had partnered with George Foreman Grills to launch the “George Foreman Grills Weight Loss Challenge” – the brand’s first ever weight loss program, and launched it with a fun cooking class! Gina Neely recently took the challenge and lost twenty pounds and 12 inches in just 12 weeks — she looks crazy amazing. “Prior to taking the George Foreman Grills Weight Loss Challenge, I wasn’t in my best shape because, like many women, I was busy concentrating on career and family. Even as a chef, I found it hard to make time to eat right and live a balanced life,” said Gina Neely . “The George...
Read MoreSurviving this flu season (it’s no easy feat)
This flu season has been pretty ridiculous. Multiple states have declared public health emergency, and scores of people — young and old — are dying every day. Just yesterday, I read of 4 teenagers who died in NJ of the flu this month. And in Connecticut 17 people have died this week — with over 1500 currently so ill they are hospitalized. This has hit very close to home for me – my own grandmother died earlier this week — otherwise healthy beforehand — and that’s why, though this isn’t normally the type of content I put in my blog, I’m embracing the TUDE side of Aly-tude and imploring you all to take care of yourselves. Do so to keep yourselves healthy and strong, but also to not spread this flu any...
