Greetings from NOLA!

Greetings from NOLA!

This is such an awesome week already. I flew out to New Orleans this afternoon to hang out with Olympus for a few days. It’ll be a really fun trip — Olympus is launching two new cameras to their lineup, the new TG-3 tough camera and the new E-M10, a new addition to the award-winning OM-D family. I’m going to be using these cameras to shoot photos as we engage in some awesome activities – not limited to the eating of COPIOUS amounts of gumbo, ghost tours, plantation tours, and so much more. If you want to watch the excitement as it unfolds over the next few days, please follow my #CapturingNOLA tag on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! Hope your week is BIG and EASY. <3 Disclaimer: All expenses for this trip and the cameras are being...

Getting our moms interested in trying new technologies and experiences – via Mother’s Day

Getting our moms interested in trying new technologies and experiences – via Mother’s Day

I recently read a study that the best way to get our parents’ generation interested in technology is, quite simply, by teaching them. My mom is by most standards “with it” for her generation. She has a smartphone and a MacBook Pro. She knows how to iMessage, tweet, even how to Facetime and Skype. She, like many a mom, exists on social media only so far as to stay involved in (and keep tabs on?) my life – she likes my Instagrams, RTs my articles, shares my Facebook statuses. Her own social media footprint is slightly more dubious. Her Instagram is comprised of about a half dozen photos, taken over the past year…interestingly, all of seafood dinners. Much as it was our parents’ job to get us interested in reading and writing...

Can we replace towels with a nifty new body drying gadget?

Can we replace towels with a nifty new body drying gadget?

I’ve been blogging a lot lately about feeling like I’ve outgrown my home, and everything in it. A furniture-sized exclamation mark was placed on this feeling tonight when I returned from a Memphis business trip (so fun!), retired to my tub to recover from a long, hard travel day — and then watched in horror as my towel rack fell right off my wall as I reached to towel off. Now, while I’d never suggest coping with such a random series of (albeit annoying) events by giving up on said towels and towel racks entirely, I do believe in karmic timing. And so, tonight, annoyed at my home falling apart in new and exciting ways and web-researching for if anyone else out there was faring better than myself this weekend, I learned there’s...

Travel must-have: A mini steamer

Travel must-have: A mini steamer

One would think with the sheer magnitude of travel I enjoy (this month boasts 4 trips), I’d be a better packer. Truth is, I’m not bad at bringing the right things (normally — there was the trip to a food festival on the beach when I forgot my swim suit, coverup, and flip flips) – but I’m pretty terrible at packing correctly. As in, chances are better than even I’ll be throwing random things into a bag AS the car waits outside to take me to the airport. And upon reaching my travel destination, I’ll decide it’s more logical to live out of the suitcase than unpack. (Actually, this is related to my not-so-unrational fear about what may live in hotel bureaus and closets.) But there you have it. After shopping and packing...

Holiday Wish List: Barbie Toy Soldier Doll at FAO Schwarz

Holiday Wish List: Barbie Toy Soldier Doll at FAO Schwarz

As I love you all so deeply, I feel the least I can do for you is keep you abreast of my holiday wishes. You have a scant month left to shop for my birthday (and even less for Hanukkah!) – and among my latest covetable finds is the super adorable exclusive Barbie FAO Schwarz Toy Soldier Doll. Does she look deliciously British? The doll was inspired by the FAO Soldier and is wearing a crimson red skirt with black and metallic golden accents. It’s amazing. (Did I mention I have a burgeoning collection???) She is wearing even wearing a cute black soldier hat!  She also has black arm cuffs and black boots. (Like me.) The doll costs $39.99 and can be found here on fao.com....

My experiences with the 2014 Toyota Corolla (and this week’s new articles!)

My experiences with the 2014 Toyota Corolla (and this week’s new articles!)

This week, I escaped New York for a precious 24 hours to attend a Toyota event in Miami. (Yes, I went to Florida FOR THE DAY, it would be jet-setter if I wasn’t so exhausted) — and aside from finding a few precious moments to reconnect with a few dear friends, I also had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the 2014 Toyota Corolla. Now, I KNOW what you may be thinking — I thought you don’t drive??? — this is technically sorta true. But I CAN drive — in fact I have a blemish-free license! – and if I was going to leave New York City and be in an environment where a car was more possible, the Toyota Corolla would be up there with my potential options. Truth be told, I look at cars as a girl. I know nothing from...

Giveaway: BasicTalk box plus one year of unlimited phone service!

Giveaway: BasicTalk box plus one year of unlimited phone service!

You may have heard mutterings about BasicTalk, a brainchild of VoIP provider Vonage. BasicTalk launched a few weeks ago, but i was lucky enough to be privy to an advance media subscription and have ben playing with it for a while — it’s a great concept, it offers residential VoIP service for $9.99 per month — that’s for unlimited calls in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, and you can continue using your existing phone number. (Way cheaper than any landline you may currently own, and it has perks I bet that landline doesn’t have.) It offers unlimited calling throughout the U.S. with no upfront costs, no contract, no hidden fees, no renewal charges, no cost to keep an existing home phone number and no compromises on quality,  but is...

Mother’s Day Giveaway: HTC First

Mother’s Day Giveaway: HTC First

I’m probably in a lot of trouble — Mother’s Day is 2 days away and I haven’t gotten my mom a present yet. While I roam the streets of Bristol, RI in hope of finding something today, perhaps you can fare better… If your mom is into her gadgets, you may want to get her something super special — AT&T is celebrating moms with a fun, shareable video e-card for a special edition of the popular “It’s Not Complicated” campaign. In a new rendition of the commercial that will air today through Sunday, mediator Beck Bennett strays from his usual, “what’s better, bigger or smaller?” and instead asks, “who gives the best hugs?” to a unanimous response – mom does! The video e-card can be personalized, offering...

Psst: Don’t tell anyone, but I cheated on my iPhone (and, er, my MacBook)

Psst: Don’t tell anyone, but I cheated on my iPhone (and, er, my MacBook)

My friends all think I’m crazy. In the past two weeks, I’ve been to Vegas, Seattle, and Wisconsin — and in 3 days (!?!) I leave for Israel. I’ll be there for 9 days (10 if we count Monday’s late-night flight), and then two days after I return, I’m going to Rhode Island. And then, from there, a few days later, Jamaica. I’m pretty sure I’m done for a while after that, but who knows. I’m not complaining — a year ago when I was sick and stuck at home for six months, my wanderlust absolutely consumed me. Now, I’m letting it reign free! That’s the reason, though, you’ll notice we have a few new interns on the site. I’m very Type A and always resisted giving up the control in order to...
