Celebrate Day of the Dead With My Cranberry Basil Margarita

Celebrate Day of the Dead With My Cranberry Basil Margarita

I’m not big on Halloween these days — or trick or treaters. But I find Day of the Dead a lot more interesting. This year leave the goblins and ghosts behind. Forget about the infused candy corn vodka. I’ve taken it up a notch and partnered with Casa Noble Tequila to celebrate Day of the Dead with a homegrown cocktail. This holiday is a time in Mexico to connect with the past, remember those who were near and Toast! And…I’m all about toasting. For Dia de los Muertos, I’ve created the following special twist on the traditional margarita, The Cranberry Basil Margarita!   1 shot Casa Noble Tequila 1 teaspoon fresh basil half of cup of cranberry juice ice cubes Blend It’s so delicious we were drinking these all last...

Video: Learn How To Make Crock Pot Baked Potatoes! (And a giveaway!)

You know that saying about if you can, do, and if you can’t, teach? The following video is something of an illustration of such. I’m at my parents for Rosh Hashonah, and as my mother has something like 8 burners going, cooking — I was assigned BAKED POTATOES. In a desperate attempt to make it seem a lot more epic than it actually is, I have illustrated my cooking process in the below video. Believe it or not, you don’t have to use the oven to make baked potatoes – you can make rather fabulous ones IN A CROCK POT. Truth is, I’m a Crock Pot junkie (I also can make a mean Crock Pot fried chicken if you want that to be my next video demo!), and Crock-Pot  is getting ready to launch its annual consumer contest — the Ultimate...

Sponsored Post: Beano Plus Dairy Defense Challenge (And Giveaway!)

Throughout the month, I’ve been taking the Beano Plus Dairy Defense Challenge, and this week, it’s all coming to a conclusion. I have to say – I was hesitant to take the challenge at first. I write here about my exciting adventures and hair decisions — did I want to share the (not so sexy) realities of issues digesting the sugars in dairy? Not so much. But then again, I’m learning from your feedback that it’s far more common a difficulty than I realized. In fact, just last week, I was out to dinner with a friend and we shared the Queso appetizer. Also on the menu? These gorgeous elote-style mole chicken wings at left.  I had taken my Beano Plus Dairy Defense — she hadn’t. Lets just say the evening ended up way more...

Sponsored Post: Fiber Choice 30-Day Get Picky Challenge Update

For the past few weeks, I’ve been taking the Fiber Choice 30-Day Get Picky Challenge. I’m in the final week or so, and I’m really feeling good about it. The sad truth is, I’ve always been really bad about getting the right nutrients in my diet. There’s days I’m traveling and eat a lot of crap – bread, fast food, caffeine. I’m not thinking about vitamins and minerals, I’m thinking about not being hungry as I run around. It’s why I gain weight, and it’s why I’m sick or run down very often. The recommended daily intake of fiber is 25 to 30 grams, and I’m guaranteeing you I wasn’t getting that much prior to starting this challenge. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if I...

Sponsored Post: Beano Dairy Defense Back on the Menu Challenge

A few weeks ago, I was challenged to take the Beano challenge — eat foods that are normally off limits to me, and see if the Beano Dairy Defense made  a difference. Prestige Brands, makers of Beano®, recently conducted a survey where they discovered the majority of women respondents (75 percent) said foods such as vegetables, beans, whole grains and dairy are an issue for them because they can cause digestive issues. Beano® + Dairy Defense™ gives you the freedom to eat the foods you want and those that are good for you, without worrying about the uncomfortable symptoms they can cause. I’m a unique case because I travel for work most of the time — I honestly don’t often have a lot of say in where I’ll end up eating, or what...

Sponsored Post: FiberChoice 30-Day Get Picky Challenge

Greetings from Down Under! I’ve been traveling for just about all of this month — and will be for much of the remainder, and sad to say, eating healthy not going very well. The thing about travel journalism is that we get to experience the best of the places we visit — and that includes the food. You can’t help but indulge, because you are somewhere for a few days, and may not be in that place again for a very long time. But if you are in that sort of situation in different regions back to back? It’s a war of wills, and even the best of intentions can go out the window. You may be eating delicious foods, but are you necessarily eating the right foods for your diet and weight management needs? Probably not. That’s why I was so...

Sponsored Post: The Unsexy Side of Eating Out

Sponsored Post: The Unsexy Side of Eating Out

A few weeks ago, I was contacted about trying Beano Plus Dairy Defense. This new product is the first over-the-counter option that prevents both gas and dairy issues, giving those of us who have these issues the freedom to eat the foods they want without worrying about the uncomfortable consequences. At first, I was like “ew” — I’m not going to write about THAT in my blog – but at the time, I was reading the email from a family lunch at Olive Garden. I have a weakness for their unlimited soup and salad lunch ($7? In NYC? Can’t lose!) – and I had indulged in the chicken gnocchi soup. The result? The soup was delicious, but I got violently ill — the cream-based soup was the achilles heel to my system. And even more so?...

Tomorrow: #JustBrewIt Twitter Party With Keurig — Win one of 15 Special Edition Brewers

I’ve spent just about every day of Passover hanging with my mom – even coerced her to come over to my mess of an apartment yesterday to help me declutter, and I’ve realized — Mother’s Day should really be every day. Keurig agrees. I’ve teamed with One2One for a “cool beans” (couldn’t resist!) Keurig #JustBrewIt Twitter Party devoted entirely to the awesomeness of our moms and making their day special (and every day special!). The party is going to be tomorrow and I hope all of you will be there! My co-host for the party will be the lovely Angela Sellari of About a Mom  — who may know a thing or two more about being a mom than I do, meaning we’ll have a lot to talk about! There’ll be some...

The Oscars are coming very very soon. And whether you are watching the red carpet just to snark at the beauty choices, or you are very invested in who wins or loses, chances are, you are going to need to be fortified. Many of us will be having viewing parties that night, and those include the need for star-quality snacks as well! Nescafe Dolce Gusto recently asked Mario Lopez about his own fancy party beverage ideas, and  he breaks out the Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine to create alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Mario’s specialty is the Espresso Martini. Combine Bourbon, Amaro and Espresso (made with the Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine) and then add ice. Stir with a long spoon (don’t shake), strain into an up glass and garnish with one Luxardo cherry. SO...
