Discuss: Stacey Face Pump by Alice + Olivia

Discuss: Stacey Face Pump by Alice + Olivia

People who wear their heart on their sleeve express their emotions freely and openly, for all to see. So, what then, of people who wear their face on their shoe? I’ll leave that for you to ponder over your Labor Day brunch mimosa (vitamin C is IMPORTANT!) BUT the Stacey Face Pump by Alice + Olivia is really, well, something. Obviously, Stacey Face features designer Stacey Bendet’s face on the front of the shoe. The face is wearing oversized sunglasses and red crystal lips — the look is sort of Old Hollywood, if Old Hollywood was being stomped on by a mid-nineties cartoon nemesis. The black and scarlet mix is something that always has spoken to me — the vamping it up of cartooned up glamour? I’m not so sure. The Stacey Face Pump costs...

Best beach towel ever: Sourpuss Tiki Party Beach Towel

Best beach towel ever: Sourpuss Tiki Party Beach Towel

As the summer will find me in the Hamptons (or the surrounding areas) three times and Mexico once, I’m really thinking I should amp up my beach attire. As bathing suits really aren’t happening for me — for a variety of reasons — it’s all about the accessories. Please tell me that this towel is not the cutest towel EVER?  I double dare you. This Sourpuss Tiki Party Beach Towel ($18), which features Sailor Jerry-styled hula girls, tiki heads, is everything. It’s everything I love about the beach and being alive. (Truth: I don’t actually love much about the beach. Or sun. Or sand. But when in Rome….) (Actually, I’d far rather be in Rome than any beach anywhere. But if I’m going to be on a beach, I’m...

Are your accessories radioactive?

Are your accessories radioactive?

DUMB QUESTION, ALY. OBVIOUSLY NOT. Except maybe just maybe the joke is on you, my dear friends. (I say that with love. Obviously.) One of my very favorite e-tailers, ASOS, had a bit of an issue a few days ago — they had to recall a bunch of cute black studded belts because they just (oops!) happened to be radioactive! The belts tested positive for radioactive isotope Cobalt-60. Now, this wasn’t an instant tail-grower or anything, in fact, Vogue UK reports that an internal report conducted by ASOS found than the leather peplum belt could cause injury if worn for more than 500 hours. Vogue also quotes a portion of the report, dubbed Project Purple Flower, that blames suppliers for accidentally contaminating metals during the refining process. Here...

Cute sandals for spring

Cute sandals for spring

Spring is finally here…I think? Well, technically. I’m home for the weekend, catching up on work and packing for Israel – which of course means putting off responsibility and instead browsing for fun shoes I’d like to own right now. At least I can (somewhat) consider it work and not the procrastination it truly is! Check out this week’s post on CompletelyYou.com — fun sandals for spring. Please share your finds as well, I could use some shopping...

Overcast skies (bright coats?)

Overcast skies (bright coats?)

Will 2013 be known as the year the Super Bowl was blacked out and New York Fashion Week was whited out? Not so much because this historic blizzard ended up (at least in NYC) being your run-of-the-mill annoying, inconvenient messy snowstorm. Harmless, for the most part, but nevertheless unnecessary and bothersome. Something pretty traumatic — in the first-world problems string of things — happened yesterday. I was en route to Lincoln Center for an early-morning show as the wet snow fell down around me, dressed (decidedly UNfashionably) in skinny jeans, a black puffer coat, and snow boots, when a street style photographer took my photo. As there’s no way in heck that’s getting me on any style kudos – I’m petrified I’ll soon...

Wish List: Alexander McQueen’s Hot Pink Whipsnake Knucklebox Clutch

Wish List: Alexander McQueen’s Hot Pink Whipsnake Knucklebox Clutch

Is it necessary to have a wish list when there’s no holidays coming? Well, if my prince was to come (and I do own a tiara after all), I know exactly what it’d take to have me a puddle at his knees forever. It’s be my latest (breathless) discovery: Alexander McQueen’s Hot Pink Whipsnake Knuckle Box Clutch. Like the other clutches in the collection, this new pink clutch also features four rings on the top of the clutch. As in RINGS. Maybe my prince is not ready to put a ring on my finger? FINE. Put it on my hot pink clutch!!! Plus, the first and third rings are skull shaped. Sort of symbolic, if you think of it. The whipsnake clutch features a nappa leather interior and runs $2295  here on alxandermcqueen.com. Photo: Alexander...

Getting geometric in the New Year

Getting geometric in the New Year

It appears that as we count down to a new year, I’m getting all about dimension — and not just in my hair. Spiraling shapes will make a girl insane (so says They Might Be Giants) and the multicolor geometric pattern on this Thea patterned clutch by BCBG Max Azria is driving ME insane. Check out that cool optical illusion thing going on — and, obviously the pink. (An inherent factor never to be ignored.) The clutch features an interior card slot and has a push-lock closure on the top, and can be found for $188 here on the BCBGMaxAzria online...

Valentine’s wish list: Frisky Charm Necklace

Valentine’s wish list: Frisky Charm Necklace

Say what you want about celebrating one holiday at a time, but with Christmas about to be behind us, there’s another important on the not-too-far horizon. And, as far as I’m concerned, jewelry (diamonds are expensive, but gold is just lovely) is the best gift a girl can ask for — and I really like this Frisky Charm Necklace ($60). Yes, I’ve always been one for getting frisky adorably – hence leopard and pink furry secret naughty stash – but for when I want to be risque in a more…ladylike? fashion…this works just perfectly! And, yes, still adorable. If you are reading, and care about such personal wish list matters? Take...

The quest for princessdom (starting with my hair)

The quest for princessdom (starting with my hair)

I’ve always wanted to be a princess. Being Kate would be amazing (obviously), but my fantasy princess is the medieval variety – with amazing flowing dresses draped with even more flowing hair, and that reality…yet harder still to realize. I don’t have a tiara – yet — or even especially long hair — but if I want to embody this feeling, maybe this Royal Chain Headpiece ($35) is a start — it’s a bit bohemian (a look I don’t generally rock), but it has so many other possibilities! I’m thinking maybe with a really fabulous retro gown? (Of course, no retro will ever be retro enough!) Friends, do you ever feel like you were just plain born into the wrong...

Post Traumatic Stress has started to infiltrate my shopping (and I haven’t left my neighborhood in days)

Post Traumatic Stress has started to infiltrate my shopping (and I haven’t left my neighborhood in days)

Ever since last week’s epic storm, I’ve become something of a hermit. Sure, I go out — I hosted my pop-up beauty stoop sale the other day, I’ve volunteered, I went to the blood drive. I even have been to restaurants and did some local shopping — but everything I’ve done, for a week now, is within a four block radius. It’s true that the transportation situation this past week had made it harder to travel to the other boroughs (or, some may say, impossible) – but also, there’s something about the scary surroundings that make you want to stick very close to home. If anything was to happen — and the weather reports say something scary is brewing as soon as tomorrow — you don’t want to have to...
