Olympics not your speed? Check out the Nailympics!

americanpridealyWinter Olympics have always been my favorite.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve been entranced watching the figure skating competitions. I’ve never had a yearning to compete myself — I’m athletically lacking (to say the least) — and I prefer not even to be in an ice skating rink, let alone learn the triple axel.

Maybe that’s part of why it’s so magical. It’s the fantasy, the hugeness of it. You can watch that spin forever, no?

The Sochi Olympic games have been getting a whole lot of jest (the conditions are less than favorable there, we hear) – but I’ve been trying to celebrate in style.

Last week, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a opening ceremony viewing party, sponsored by P&G Beauty, where we sipped White Russians (get it?? what a perfect theme cocktail!) and had some patriotic fun. Nail art (we went for the gold, duh), stars and stripes photo booth, and more. (Pictured here, myself with my bestie Allie, showing just how Americana we can get. We were two White Russians in…you should see the later photos.)

There’s something huge about the Olympics, for sure. But the athletic nature may not be for you — maybe you are about a whole other sport. Say, of nail art?

Nail art has become a competitive event. No lie! The annual Nailympics features the work of the world’s top nail artists and was held recently in Rome. The competitions range from classic gels to the fantasy event, which features incredibly elaborate styles. Some of the over-the-top nail designs include LED lights.

Some of them are also ridiculously long. Check it out! It seems rather fun to be a part of!

That’s crazy! I unfortunately have become allergic to the chemicals in gels and have to keep my nails minimally dressed!

What do you think?
