Saying goodbye to summer (but staying pretty in pink, always!)

As it’s Labor Day weekend, many of you are getting your last gasps of summer in — that final trip to the beach, the last barbecue of the season, perhaps a nostalgic afternoon by the pool.

Personally, I’m rather ready for the summer to end. Air conditioning sends my electric bills through the roof and I hate the beach. (Sorry, America.)

However, as cooler weather usually inspires people to be more bulky — in size as well as accessories — I’m finding myself craving that which is increasingly minimalist. My back is tired of lugging a huge bag around, carrying the virtual kitchen sink.

And while that’s sometimes necessary — too many days involve needing both my computer and my workout clothes — there’s also times that I just have to shut it down, and party light and pretty — and pink, obviously — like in this adorable  Lulu Townsend Stud Bow Clutch ($27).

Perfect for the next party I attend — where, lets face it, I don’t NEED to attend as a pack mule — but perhaps an inspiration for all areas of my life. Doesn’t it remind you a bit of that quote from Up in the Air (one of my favorite movies)?

As said by the delicious George Clooney:

“How much does your life weigh? Imagine for a second that you’re carrying a backpack. I want you to pack it with all the stuff that you have in your life… you start with the little things. The shelves, the drawers, the knickknacks, then you start adding larger stuff. Clothes, tabletop appliances, lamps, your TV… the backpack should be getting pretty heavy now. You go bigger. Your couch, your car, your home… I want you to stuff it all into that backpack. Now I want you to fill it with people. Start with casual acquaintances, friends of friends, folks around the office… and then you move into the people you trust with your most intimate secrets. Your brothers, your sisters, your children, your parents and finally your husband, your wife, your boyfriend, your girlfriend. You get them into that backpack, feel the weight of that bag. Make no mistake, your relationships are the heaviest components in your life. All those negotiations and arguments and secrets, the compromises. The slower we move, the faster we die. Make no mistake, moving is living. Some animals were meant to carry each other to live symbiotically over a lifetime. Star crossed lovers, monogamous swans. We are not swans. We are sharks.”

Now, I don’t desire quite the degree of back lightening that George’s character did. But I do desire just a tad more lightness of step – because, he’s right — it makes us quicker and freer – and I’m all about that! And not carrying my pack rat tote? A great way to start.

I really love this! I wish I had it for this Saturday – my son is getting married and I don’t have a dressy small purse to carry my stuff in. Oh well – it is so cute!!!!!
