Dealing with your stuff: Cleaning up all your little messes
I think everyone has a picture in their mind of their ideal life — it’s this ideal that keeps them working hard each day and propelling themselves forward, toward a place where the imagined becomes reality. But, recently when having dinner with a close friend, this concept came up, and we began discuss if perhaps creating your ideal future is like the old saying of draining the swamp. What if it’s the unplanned messes in our life that acts as alligators, taking up all the time and energy we have, and distracting us from reaching the very goals that keep us going? It doesn’t matter if your mess is boyfriend issues, problems paying your rent, or a client who doesn’t respect you — a mess is anything that drains your energy and...

With the notable exception of the Buffy franchise, I’ve never been much of a comic girl. But suddenly, my worlds are colliding and everything has changed! Benefit Cosmetics has partnered with Marvel’s custom publishing division to launch SpyGal, a beauty-inspired comic book hero. Amazing, right? Benefit is using SpyGal to promote their POREfessional pore minimizing primer. The POREfessional packaging evokes a vintage female action figure complete with a pore-zapping ray gun and touch-up pro case. SpyGal wears a blue trenchcoat with black boots and a blue fedora, which is ridiculously cool under any circumstances. You can read the comic online here. Photo: Benefit...
Read MoreStyle Bargain: Calvin Klein Powerstretch Skinny Crop Jeans
I’m having surgery in a few days, and anticipating a pretty lame next few weeks as I recover — meaning I’m making the most of the few remaining days of freedom I have. I’ve been calling these days “freedom fest” – but all that really means is the decision to live large, bright and festive in every way possible – and lo and behold, these bright pink cropped denim from Calvin Klein are on sale and fell right into my plan. The Powerstretch Skinny Jeans are destined to be my summer staple- they fit great, and are super versatile (making them very travel-friendly) – but if pink is not your color (shudder), they are offered in a range of colors, from ultra blue to jade green, bright rose to sunshine yellow....
Read MoreGiveaway: Pastry’s Hot Summer Kicks
For the longest time, I feared sneakers — until I discovered that with the right pair, I could be comfortable and remain totally adorable (or perhaps be extra adorable) and that changed everything. Check out Pastry, a lifestyle fashion brand from Angela and Vanessa Simmons. Name sound familiar? You may recall them as the daughters of the legendary Rev. Run of Run DMC and stars of the hit MTV reality Shows “Run’s House ” and “Daddy’s Girls”. The Simmons sisters created Pastry back in 2007, when they saw a need in the market for fashionable fun footwear made for women (by women). The brand’s concept and message to girls and women around the globe is to “Live Life Sweet.” And aren’t they totally sweet? Look at the...
Read MoreUnder the Sea: Roberto Coin Launches Octopus Ring
As I write this, I’m loitering in my favorite neighborhood cafe (Shout out to Noella Brew Bar in Park Slope!), and, as craziness would have it, Under the Sea from Disney’s The Little Mermaid started to pipe through the room. Weird, you say? Not at all because my soul was craving a little whimsy, and such a soundtrack to my afternoon was precisely the ticket. Of course, it couldn’t be just a coincidence that at that moment — as the sea-esque music filled my ears — that I came across Italian jewelry Roberto Coin’s fun new octopus ring. The octopus, encrusted with sapphires and black diamonds, sits on a 18 karat pink gold ring. The inspiration for the ring was Paul, the octopus that entertained the world with its predictions during...
Read MoreMy night with Lady Antebellum (and my newest crush)!
Lady Antebellum – you may have heard of them, they won like every Grammy award this year — is pretty busy of late. They just debuted new 30-second TV spots for Lipton Tea & Honey and Lipton 100% Natural, and they are on tour. (See, at left, me hanging with them last week at their show at Radio City, as a guest of Lipton.) The message in their commercial is fairly bad-ass — the band lights up — literally — with the drink’s “100% natural” ingredients just before it performs hit single “We Owned The Night” to a sold-out crowd. I’ve been searching forever for anything that makes me LIGHT UP. Perhaps it’s not a good tinted moisturizer. Perhaps the answer is at the bottom of a glass. I always...
Read MoreIn my purse: NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine
My favorite part of my job is that it lets me to PLAY. And by play, I mean, sometimes spend a perfectly viable weekday afternoon doing nothing but putting on a dozen various lip shades and making kissy faces at our web cam. (Note, there was no one on the other side. This isn’t an illicit Skype story. It’s just me being ridiculous.) But the source of this afternoon’s enjoyment (otherwise known as procrastination from deadlines/life/reality) was NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine ($2.49) — and really, when something costs $3, do we really have any other choice in life BUT to own it in every shade and play with every one, incessantly? It’s made of pigments and 3D shimmer effect. Now, I realize that makes me sound like a human disco...
